Description
Medicaid is a program that helps pay for medically necessary medical services for needy and low-income persons. It uses state and Federal government money. The Department of Human Services (DHS) runs the Medicaid program in Arkansas. Medicaid and Medicare are different programs. Medicare is Federal health insurance. It pays for medical services for aged and disabled persons.
Medicaid reimburses health care providers for covered medical services provided to eligible needy individuals in certain categories. Eligibility is determined based on income, resources, Arkansas residency, and other requirements. Covered services also vary among categories.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Arkansas, a US national, citizen or permanent resident in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or very low income . If very low income, you must also be pregnant, have a child(ren) with a disability, or be responsible for children under the age of 19 years.
